Hair-oine

A necklace made out of my own hair to show the objectification of women.

Hair-oine, 23 x 17 x 10.5 cm, Hair and pins on jewelry stand, 2017

Hair-oine was inspired by Mona Hatuom’s Hair Necklace. Hair-oine is about women keeping up with ever changing beauty standards. It is made completely out of hair to show the physical effort and sacrifice we make in order to please the public eye. The pins have imitation pearls on them to convey how women go through this pain silently without complaint. The jewelry is an abstract take on “chokers”. Females should realise that beauty should not be painful but enjoyable and comforting.
